2018 saw another celeb wedding. This time former Miss World turned Bollywood actress turned Hollywood actress, Priyanka Chopra who wed Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers fame.
The wedding was an extravaganza expertly straddling both Indian and American culture and a celebration of the couple’s whirlwind courtship. The celebrations kicked off with a religious blessing at Priyanka’s mother’s Mumbai home before travelling to Jodhpur in Rajasthan where the festivities kicked off with a mehndi celebration. The bride stole everybody’s hearts in a brightly coloured Abu Jhani Sandeep Khosla outfit with heritage jewellery from their collection and designed by Saboo using rubies collected over generations.
Then followed a fun filled musical evening with both families competing against each other in dance routines. Priyanka wore another stunning Abu Jhani Sandeep Khosla outfit – this time a stunning silver, gold saree.
And then to the wedding…or two weddings to be exact. The first “Christian wedding” featured Ralph Lauren outfits for the bride and groom. And the wedding dress, well… custom made Ralph Lauren which took a whopping 1,826 hours to make with a 75 foot veil.
A little known fact – the groom had the words in Urdu “meri jaan” or “my life” embroidered on the inside of his jacket from the lace from the brides outfit. Aaaaahhh….
And we’re not finished there. Moving on to the Hindu wedding ceremony. This time moving the King of Brides – Sabyasachi Mukherjee. A stunning red lehenga with hand cut organza flowers, French knots made in silk floss and Siam-red crystals. The outfit took 110 embroiders in Calcultta 31,720 hours to make. Bit it was the jewellery here that stole the show. Priyanka wore Mughal jewellery that featured uncut diamonds, emeralds, and Japanese cultured pearls in 22 karat gold all by Chopard. Her necklace was encrusted with 84.50-carats of pear-shaped diamonds set in 18k white gold, her earrings had pear-shaped diamonds totaling 6.07-carats and her maang tikka included a 16-carat oval-shaped diamond drop.
The wedding was a fun filled and inclusive extravaganza celebrating the couples love for each other and appreciation of their mutual cultures which was evidence in all the celebrations starting from bridal shower at Tiffany’s in New York and ending in a reception for the Bollywood fraternity in Mumbai.
