Lockdown Living: Never has a weekly beauty routine been more important. Soon the grey roots are going to show, the eyebrows are going to look like something out of a King Kong movie and the legs, well, let’s just not go there!
The skin, however, is something that we can control during our #stayathome period so that when we emerge from our lockdown, we’ll be ready to bounce into Spring. I try and keep my beauty products as simple as possible and don’t tend to change products so quickly. I’m sharing below my all-time faves
I have had a weekly facial beauty routine for about fifteen years now. Even when I forget for a few days, I think about what day it is and remember what small beauty prep I have to do that day. So, Sunday for example is my face mask day. I do a quick skin analysis. My skin is normal-dry so it varies between dry periods, pore issues and sometimes looking a bit lacklustre and dull. Basically, what needs fixing that week? And then I’ll go to my “go to” beauty product and slather it on. Wednesday is exfoliating day…Saturday (as long as I’m not going out Sunday morning), is my cue to put some oil in my hair (I’m a big fan of coconut oil), leave it in as long as possible on Sunday and then wash it out.
So, here are my favourite skin products. First my choice of daily skin cleanser is a wash off gel. Currently I’m using Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel with Marula Oil. I have also for many years used the Biotique Bio Honey Gel, an Indian organic brand based on Ayurvedic principles. My daily moisturiser of choice at the moment is Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream. I’m at an age when collagen loss is a thing and I’ve found this cream just really hits the spot. When London pollution takes it’s toll, I use Clinique Clarifying Lotion No: 2. which is great for sweeping the dirt off Also, a long term favourite. In fact I discovered this on my first trip to New York in 1999! The eye cream is currently Dr Sebagh Supreme Eye Serum.
So on to my special care weekly routine. My Wednesday exfoliator is Clarins exfoliating beads which again I have been using for a long time. A quick scrub in the shower with this baby keeps those blackheads at bay.
On Sunday’s, my go to mask of choice is currently Origins Rose Clay Masque this gives a great freshness, minimises pores and makes my skin feel really clean and soft. When my skin is feeling dry and I really need a dollop of moisture, I use Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask. I love the fact that you can leave this on overnight and if my skin is itching or feels tight, I use this and the itching disappears overnight. I follow this with Clarins Blue Orchid Face Oil. Again, another favourite of mine for many years and is a staple on my Christmas wish list. The smell in itself is absolutely divine (can’t believe I just used that word!). I use this sparingly as it is very rich and a little goes a long way.
So that’s my weekly routine. Come Monday morning my skin is pore free, squeaky clean and soft as a baby’s derriere, ready for my working week which right now just happens to be at my dining table!
